TOKO Melbourne

Following the success of their Sydney venue the owners of Toko created a new venue in Melbournes’ iconic Greville Street.  The Melbourne venue shares many of the design features of its subterranean sister venue – noteably a stunning concrete feature by stonekast .

The open kitchen and separate whisky bar feature stonekast’s bespoke concrete materials stacked to create a dramatic tactile pattern.  This concept originated with Toko founder Matt Yazbek who was inspired by the clay brick patterns he had seen whilst traveling in Japan.    Finding nothing on the market that would achieve his vision the solution came when he found stonekast .

The stonekast workshop champions creativity by happily providing affordable one-off or short-run pieces – triangle pieces for the Melbourne design and rounds for Sydney. The concrete features are highlighted with subtle moody lighting and other signature Toko elements – wood, copper and handmade murals.   The overall effect is very Melbourne yet evokes the spirit of Japan.
